Explore what you can create with brush lettering

I’ve added a new brush lettering practice download for you today using the words I sent out yesterday. This one is all about playful composition and experimenting with scale.

To create this style of calligraphy, try lightly drawing a circle first, then fill it with your lettering, following the curve and spacing as you go. You can recreate the same look I’ve used here, or take it as an opportunity to practice different sized lettering, mixing styles and rhythms within the shape.

I really encourage you to experiment with a combination of brush pens too. In this piece, I’ve used a Tombow Dual Brush Pen alongside a Pentel Touch Brush Pen, which gives a lovely contrast between thicker and more delicate strokes.

There’s no right or wrong with this exercise. Take your time, play with pressure, spacing, and pen choices, and most of all enjoy the process. I’d love to see what you create, so do share your practice with me @wildseacalligraphy.

Happy lettering,

Lyndsey x
