The Calligraphy Book by Lindsey Bugbee

If you’ve ever wanted to add a touch of elegance to your handwritten notes, Lindsey Bugbee’s book is an absolute gem. As the creative force behind The Postman’s Knock, Bugbee has a talent for making calligraphy both accessible and fun, and this book is a perfect reflection of that.

I was lucky enough to receive this book as a gift (check out that stunning hand-lettered envelope that came with my book), and from the moment I flipped through its beautifully designed pages, I was hooked. It’s packed with ideas, projects, and lettering styles ranging from formal scripts to playful calligraphy. A particular point of inspiration, as Patreon member Deidre highlighted, was the effective and beautiful combination of inky black lettering with gold embellishments featured on the cover design and throughout the book.

One of the standout aspects of this book is how Bugbee breaks down calligraphy into an approachable art form. She doesn’t just teach you how to form letters; she gives you creative ways to apply your skills. The projects are where this book truly shines, and two of my favourites are the projects shown above and the newborn gift ideas. Although the book is jam-packed with great inspiration.

These projects make for perfect handmade gifts, and I love how Bugbee encourages personalisation with different scripts and embellishments. They’re an ideal way to practice your strokes while creating something useful and beautiful.

The newborn gift projects are equally inspiring. There’s something so special about using calligraphy to craft a keepsake for a little one. These projects feel deeply personal and timeless. They’re also a fantastic way to add a heartfelt, handmade touch to baby showers or welcome gifts.

This book is a fantastic guide for anyone who wants to dive into the world of calligraphy. Bugbee’s teaching style is warm and encouraging, making you feel like she’s right there with you, guiding you through each stroke and flourish. If you’re looking to explore calligraphy in a fun and rewarding way, this book is an absolute must-have.
